Faculty offices will go under renovation and though it has not been giving an exact day, it is predicted to start early next year and finish by the end of summer.

Relocation phase one of faculty and staff started the last week of November. Phase two and final move will conclude in January 6, to Pierce Village located behind the North and South Gym.

According to Professor of Anthropology and Chair Department of Anthropological and Geographical Science, Philip L. Stein, said, ” The transition to the bungalows has been smooth, well organize.”

Stein who has been a Pierce professor for 44 years said, ” Donna-Mae Villanueva [Dean of Academic Affairs] is doing a fantastic job with the organization.”

“…Its been done very well, very well planed,” Stein added.

What used to be student dormitories in the late 1940’s and early 1950’s did not become faculty offices until the 1960’s. According to Professor of Political Science Bill De Rubertis, who has been a Pierce College faculty since 1970.

” This is a historic building.” De Rubertis said.

Though the exact terms under the contract have not yet been settle, some of the renovations to the faculty Offices will consist on total renovation of the bathrooms to make them handicap, which believe it or not some of the bathrooms still have showers from when the building was used as dormitories.

Also part of the renovation is new windows, doors, carpet tiles, interior and exterior painting, and new furniture. Now would be the time for the College to install james hardie fiber cement siding, whilst the windows and doors are being changed. This would also save money as an exterior paint job would no longer be needed. As for the interior, utilizing some of the door deals on offer will help keep renovation costs to a minimum. Additionally, a number of other renovations will be required. There will be also a waiting room and conference area. During this time they’re going to be using keepsafe self storage to store all the office equipment to make sure it is safe during the renovation.

According to David Tsao of Swinerton Management and Consulting, the project has not been awarded yet it will go into bid in January.

Propositon AA/A granted $3 billion in bonds to fund repairs and improvements to all nine LACCD colleges. Swinerton is managing over $292 million on funded improvements.

Among other projects that Swinerton is working 40 other projects such as, 600-car parking lot, science building, technology center, cafeteria, student service building, conference facility and other renovations to other existing buildings.
