Cerritos wins women’s soccer championship

The Cerritos College women’s soccer team won their second state championship in as many years on Sunday, beating Santa Rosa 4-2 in Fresno.

Corina Villegas scored three goals in the championship game, bringing her final count for the year to 21, second on the team to Monique Cisneros, who leads the state with 36 goals.

The Falcons and the Pierce College Brahmas met in the second round of the playoffs, with the Falcons winning that game 3-0, ending the Brahmas championship run.

The win brought the Falcons final record to 21-0-4, and gave them their second consecutive state championship. The Cerritos men’s soccer team also won a state championship, their second in three years.
