Why wait for Wednesday

Aaron Sheldon / Roundup

Staff members of the Roundup newspaper have traditionally spent the majority
of their time reporting stories, taking pictures and designing pages for the print edition.

However, we live in a fast-paced world and we attend a fast-paced college. Why should readers find out about news and events after everything is already over, or accept sports scores that are three games too late?

Since summer, we have been posting stories ranging from news and sports to play reviews and campus events.

Wednesday is no longer our restriction;
our collective ability to inform has been radically empowered by the introduction
of a steady online presence.

The utilization of http://www.therounduponline.net has allowed us to explore multimedia-enhanced journalism, which includes the usage of videos, audio slideshows, broadcasts, interactive utilities and more.

It is not an uncommon sight to see Roundup reporters and photographers walking around Pierce College with their pens, pads and cameras. Soon, it won’t be surprising to see them walking around with video and audio equipment, seeking students and staff willing to voice their opinions about issues that relate to them.

After all, shouldn’t the Pierce population
have a say about matters that affect them directly?

Because we want to hear the campus
voice, we are implementing message boards for public feedback and will eventually
introduce our new blogging system.

The message board added this week, for example, exists for anybody with opinions
on the upcoming election. More message
boards will be implemented as soon as issues present themselves.

The Roundup is also currently using MySpace by which important headlines and information can be easily accessed. Many of you have already received and accepted
our friend requests, but feel free to seek us out as we continue to strive toward keeping Pierce informed now, not later.

Anybody with a story idea, a comment about one of our articles or some general input about today’s issues is welcome to post on our message boards or article-comment sections.

We are glad you want to hear from us -but we want to hear from you, too. As part of the Pierce community, our duty is to inform you.
