There are no lab-confirmed cases of H1N1 flu or “swine flu” on campus, according to Beth Benne, director of the Student Health Center.
Los Angeles County health policy currently dictates that people suffering from flu-like symptoms are assumed to have the H1N1 virus.
According to a Los Angeles Department of Public Health release, the L.A. County Public Health Laboratory is currently only accepting specimens from:
- Hospitalized intensive care unit patients
- Fatal cases of influenza-like illnesses (ILI)
- Outbreaks or clusters of cases with ILI
- Specimens from designated surveillance sites
The H1N1 vaccine is not yet available at the Student Health Center.
