Location for Swinerton offices may be changed

The offices for the Swinerton Management Team will be built in Parking Lot 8 at Pierce.

This comes in the wake of the demolishing of the farm houses on El Rancho Drive for Swinerton’s offices, which was a cause of protest on campus.

Swinerton is responsible for all current construction on campus.

The offices were originally to be located at the back of Parking Lot 8, according to Interim President Joy McCaslin. Those plans were made by former Pierce College president Robert Garber.

McCaslin said that it was changed to the location of the farm houses for convenience. There are utilities present on El Rancho Drive, but not in the area where Swinerton is now to move.

“We will have to put them in,” McCaslin said.

Though she said it would be an “additional expense,” McCaslin said it would be a small amount due to the fact that utilities are present nearby. No costs have been discussed yet, according to McCaslin.

McCaslin just granted approval to Swinerton for the move this morning, according to David Tsao, College Project Manager for Swinerton.

“We go where we are told to go,” Tsao said.

After receiving approval, Tsao said engineers and contractors will be contacted to begin planning for the building. No set date has been set for the move.

As for the land where the farm houses were and the offices were to be built, there are “no plans for that area,” according to McCaslin.
