The Brahmas completed the season sweep of the Ventura College men’s basketball team Saturday night at home as they beat the Pirates in a wild one, 73-71.

Pierce (13-11, 7-3) began the game trailing as Ventura (7-17, 4-7) went on a 13-3 run to start the game.

The intensity was carried for the rest of the half as the Brahmas had a 20-0 run to finish out the first half strong, leading by 11 at the half.

Pierce had the chance to run away with the game going into the second half but had some crucial turnovers and missed opportunities.

“We have to learn to keep energy for the whole game.” said freshman guard Josh Thomas who had a team high 14 points.

With the score 73-71 and :04 seconds left in the game Ventura held their own fate as freshman guard Antavius Sims went to the charity stripe to shoot two.

Sims eventually missed both shots which set off absolute pandemonium in Woodland Hills as the Brahmas got the rebound and ran out the clock to assure the victory.

“I’m pleased with the effort, congratulations to Pierce College on a great season.” said Ventura Coach Will Cowen.

Although the Brahmas got the win Pierce Coach Ed Babayan wasn’t completely satisfied with the effort.

“I feel we did just enough to get the win, which isn’t the way I wanted to get it done.” said Babayan. “They missed their opportunities, we missed way more than them, we didn’t play the way we’re capable.”

The Brahmas will play their next game on the road against the Oxnard Condors in Oxnard tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
