With green pants and a newly designed arm patch, Sheriffs’ Security Officers  sport a new combination for their uniforms.

“The uniform change is for Security Officers only,” said Sgt. Belinda Johnson. “The Deputy uniform has not changed.”

The new uniform is to clearly identify that the Sheriffs as part of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

“I hope that it helps with the confusion,” said Sheriffs Security Officer Roberto Figueroa. “Some people think we are a private security company because our old uniforms don’t match up the deputies’ color.”

Every officer must purchase a new uniform.

“We had to buy our own,” said Figueroa. “But they will issue us a voucher to receive two shirts and pants for free at a later time.”

Sheriffs Security Officer Justin Ramos shared his view on the uniforms.

“It’s the individuals that make the uniform mean something and stand for something,” said Ramos. “Many overlook us and our main function and only acknowledge us when they need our help.”

Officer Ramos explained how the uniform doesn’t change his personality, but rather motivates him to fulfill his duty for campus safety.

“My personality doesn’t change,” said Ramos. “I don’t feel important when I am wearing the uniform but my objective is to keep the campus safe and that is very important.”
