In his first semester at Pierce College, Kevin Sparks is excited about the change he can bring to Associated Students Organization and Pierce next year if elected President.

Pierce College will be holding ASO elections on April 19 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and April 20from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in front of the Great Hall.

Sparks will be running against Nick Naczinski for ASO President.

Sparks plans on focusing on three main platforms. Making Pierce more of a “community, advertising, and build communication between government and students.”

Community is important to Sparks since he came from Crespi Carmelite High School, a small high school in Encino.

“I come from a high school that was such a close community it made my experience [there] amazing and I guarantee my peers would agree. I want to bring that energy here,” said the Crespi graduate.

As this semesters ASO Social Cultural Chair Sparks has experiences holding events but believes advertising those events need to increase.

“I also know there is Financial Aid available for community colleges, I would like to advertise [that] to Pierce students so they can take advantage of it,” said Sparks.

Sparks has enjoyed his time as ASO Social Cultural Chair holding events.

“[Sparks] has worked on events with administration and have heard great thing about him and his events,” said ASO Advisor Brad Saenz.

Building a better transparency between student government and Pierce students is key according to Sparks.

“I would love to have students send me questions or suggestions on Facebook,” said Sparks. “I would also rebuild the website so that it works efficiently,” He continued.

Current President Shani Simms and former social cultural chair believes Sparks is one of the best social cultural chairs she has ever seen.

“He brought a lot of new ideas to ASO.” Said Simms. “The president position is a lot more time consuming, but he’s up for the job,” said Simms

After polling the stude
nt body the Social Cultural Committee received data showing that 96% of the students were interested in school events.

“I am committed to giving the students what they want. I’m for the students,” Said Sparks.

The 3.0 grade point average, Political Science major believes he is “well rounded” and ready to be the next ASO President.
