A lack of communication may have led to certain departments not being appropriated enough money, according to discussions at the Pierce College Council (PCC) meeting today.
It was reported by Florence Robin, chair-person of the Library, that the Library needs more funds in order to operate for the rest of the year.
Robin said that the Library would need approximately $76,000 in order to run the 15-20 databases “wanted and needed by the students.”
The Vice Presidents of the three divisions of the college (Academic Affairs, Student Services and Administrative Services) attend the Budget Committee meeting and submit requests based on the information given to them by the group they represent.
There seemed to be a miscommunication of who should or can attend these meetings, as well as a miscommunication about any available money.
Vice President of Academic Affairs, Nabil Abu-Ghazaleh, would have been the one to advocate for additional funds for the Library and other programs under his oversight.
In other news, Scott Taylor introduced two new construction projects. Taylor showed the PCC a PowerPoint slide show, illustrating what the facilities will look like and the different features.
The Facilities and Maintenance Project, which will house offices, workshops and utilities, will be located behind the current Horticulture buildings across from Parking Lot 1.
The Project is expected to cost more than $21 million and is set to be completed by mid-2011.
The second project, the Horticulture and Animal Science Facility will be located along Brahma Drive on the far side of campus.
According to Megan Gorman of Hill Partnership Inc., a designer on the project, the facility will cost around $11 million dollars and will serve as a teaching tool for both students and faculty, as well as the community.
Both projects will be built with sustainable materials, as well as feature energy saving designs.
Lyn Clark, president of the PCC, gave an update on the college presidential selection, saying that the 12-person committee had met on Friday to discuss interviews.
According to Clark, interviews will take place on April 29 and 30.
