Pierce’s first ever Civil War reenactment, called “Heritage Days,” will soon be coming to the farm.
The Foundation’s mission is to support the students by raising public awareness and developing resources for educational programs and for the campus. They also provide various scholarships for Pierce students.
On June 12 and 13 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. the Heritage Days event will take place on the Pierce College Farm and will feature 12 Civil War reenactments.
Tickets range from $10 to $15 and according to Washburn, Pierce faculty, staff and students will receive a discount.
The event will not only be an amusing occasion it will also be an educational lesson such as the Lincoln impersonator who will reenact the renowned Gettysburg Address.
“One of the best Lincoln and Robert E. Lee impersonators in the U.S. will be there,” said Washburn.
The reenactments will vary from a cavalry demonstration to a historical clothing presentation and a Civil War ballroom dance class.
Proceeds for the Heritage Days event will go to the Pierce College Farm Center.
“This should be a great great activity. They turn out to be quite educational events,” said Washburn. “The money that we make is for Pierce College. We’ll go a long way in filling the gaps we’re currently facing.”
A known fact is that Pierce College is suffering financially and events like this can prove to be quite beneficial.
He also mentioned that there will be food to accompany the events.
Floriya Borzenkova, the services coordinator for the Foundation said that this is the very first event of its kind.
Although the program holds events from time to time, such as the Halloween Harvest Festival, the Heritage Day event is the largest they have ever planned.
“There should be nearly 400 people who will be playing as actors. We’re not sure exactly how many since it’s the first time,” said Borzenkova.
Tickets can be bought online at www.piercefarmcenter.com along with further information and a schedule of the Heritage Days reenactments.
