Hiring is coming along and two positions have already been filled

A progress report on the ongoing hiring of 22 new faculty positions was brought to attention at the Pierce College Council’s final meeting of the semester in the College Services Building Conference Room yesterday.

A position at the Learning Center as a math specialist was approved by the district office yesterday, which now adds another position open for employment.

The hiring process is moving along quickly.

The grant writer position, which has been being advertised since February, has already been filled by Patrick Salazar. One of the two psychology positions has also been occupied, and the library interviews began yesterday and are continuing today.

The hiring committees, which include about 80 members of the faculty, is currently reviewing applications and already created a timeline this is being put into place to review final candidates for positions.

“Everything is moving along,” said Tom Rosdahl, an instructor of automotive service tech. “It’s a busy time for the folks in the Senate.”

The reasons for the new positions consisted of positions that were vacated while the professors were under probation, meaning left in their first four years, and a large number of professors retiring.

Starting in the fall half of the faculty will be on tenure track or recently new to tenure.

“Opening day we will have 22 new shining faces lined up,” said Rosdahl.
