How about truth in advertising?

Students need to be in touch with their professors.  That’s just a given.  Unfortunately, Pierce College’s online directory doesn’t always give students the proper information.

Some professors have left Pierce, whether it is retirement, transfer or even death, and new professors have been hired.

The online directory should show these changes.

For example; if you came to Pierce two years ago with the title of adjunct instructor and now you are a full-time faculty member, you should change your title and let the world know you have been promoted on campus.

Even if the position hasn’t changed, your office location may have.

Students believe they can find the necessary information in Academic Affairs or Admissions because that is where they are used to going when signing up for classes.

Unfortunately, that is not the case.

“Everybody is responsible for updating their information,” said Associate Vice President of Administrative Services, said Larry Kraus.

Faculty needs to do what they’re supposed to.

As each new semester approaches, it is up to you to submit your current information.  No one needs to chase after you and ask if you have updated the website.  Think of it as an assignment.

How can this be accomplished? It seems like every department passes the buck to another.  Of all the departments within the campus, you are taken back to Academic Affairs, where you first started and were told they are not in charge of updates.  Everyone seems clueless.

Who’s in charge?

Staff and faculty, should take the time and make the minor change.  It is not that complex.

It will help students who are trying to get in contact with their professors for whatever reason it may be.

Possibly, the student was absent or lost their syllabus.

Professors, don’t you want your students to be able to contact you if they have any questions?

Certainly, the students should not be going around campus trying to figure out who is in charge of updating the directory.

It is obvious that the dead can’t speak for themselves which means who deletes their name from the system?

Once that’s done, Pierce will have current information and we can confidently rely on the Pierce Website.

Wouldn’t that be nice?

Simply go to the Pierce website, type your last name on the search area, and it will take you to the Phone Directory.

Finally, click on “Request Changes” where you can make all the necessary changes, and you are set.

See, something that was mutually beneficial and advantageous for everyone is just a click away.
