Early Holes

Falling behind was the theme for the Lady Brahmas’ as they welcomed Allan Hancock College for a Thursday afternoon double-header.

The Lady Brahmas’ dug themselves into hole early in the first inning falling behind 5-0.

“I have a lot of stuff in my personal life and it carried over,” said Heather Krahling “Get mad, allow yourself to get mad and get over it.”

Krahling was able to bounce back from her erratic first inning performance and only give up two runs the rest of the game.

The Lady Brahmas’ struggled to produce runs until the bottom of the fifth inning were they charged with four runs to make the score 6-4.

However, the late inning was not enough as the Lady Brahmas’ fell to Allan Hancock College by the final score of 7-4.

“Nerves, girls were nervous;  our first conference game and we handed the game to them,” said Assistant Head Coach Danny Moore.  “Our team is young and learning how to win.”

“We need to work through our demons,” said Moore on the team falling behind in both games.  “When we play our game we can beat anybody.”

The second game the Lady Brahma’s took a step back from how their performance in the first game.

Again they dug themselves into an hole early by giving up two runs in the first inning. That first inning was just a sign of more bad things to come.

The Lady Brahmas’ were down 3-1 until the fourth when play got out of hand and Allan Hancock opened the game with 13 runs.

“I don’t know what happened,” said Abia Salvatierra on the outcome of the game. Early on, Salvatierra had an opportunity to tie the game when she was batting with two outs and the bases were loaded;  and her team was down 3-1.

“I was too anxious,” said Salvatierra, who would eventually strikeout with bases loaded squandering the last scoring chance the Lady Brahmas’ had before the game got out of hand.

“Mental Meltdown,” said Jeff Peterson on the performance the team displayed in the second game.

Allan Hancock College would go on to trounce the Lady Brahmas’ by the final score of 16-1 and completing the two game sweep.

“Error early on are killing us,” said Peterson.  “We have a hard time playing when we get behind.”

The Lady Brahmas’ next two games will be a home game Tuesday versus Cuesta at 2:30pm and the second will be a road double-header versus Ventura at 1pm and 3pm.
