Dean’s list students recognized

Pierce College students who qualified for the Dean’s List and achieved honor roll status were given awards by Pierce College President Kathleen Burke-Kelly on Thursday in the Great Hall.

“This is a wonderful and amazing opportunity to celebrate what is wonderful about this institution, which is [the student body],” said Barbara Anderson, assistant dean of academic affairs.

Also on hand were Anna Davies, vice president of academic affairs; Joy McCaslin, vice president of student services; and Phylis Braxton, dean of student affairs.

“Being a student is honestly one of the hardest things in the world,” said ASO President Daniel Axelrod during the opening ceremony.

In order to be on the Dean’s List, students must maintain a GPA of 3.5 and carry 12 units for three or more semesters.

“This night is all about you,” said Burke-Kelly.  “This is your opportunity to show appreciation for the people in the back of the room who have supported you, your family.”

Caylor Davis doesn’t hide her elation as Anna Davies prepares to award her the Pierce College President’s Honor List medal during a ceremony in the Student Community Center’s Great Hall on May 5, 2011 in Woodland Hills, Calif. Students maintaining Dean’s List status for three consecutive semesters are eligible for the award, which includes a transcript annotation. (UD 2011)
