Pierce College Women’s soccer team scored two first half goals to beat the Ventura College 2-1 on Monday in what was a physical game to push their current win streak to four.

In the 23rd minute of the first half midfielder Joandra Ramirez put the Brahmas on scoreboard first.

In the 31st minute of the first half Pirates forward Merissa Campos tied the game up at one a piece in
a mix up in front of the goalie, during the mix up goalkeeper Emily Ortiz injured her elbow and left the
game and would not return.

According to Ortiz her injury might be a pinched nerve or hyper extended
elbow, but was unsure of what it really was.

Two minutes after the Pirates only goal Pierce responded with the game winning goal scored by
midfielder Sophie Forrester.

The Pirates roughness was showed on the field as they caused three injuries to two of Pierce’s
players, but they would return in the second half.

It also did not help them by playing in front of a hostile, but small crowd.

The physical play was returned by Pierce in the second half. Although no other goals were scored Pierce
had some opportunities to add more, but failed to finish them.

“During the second half we’re a different team,” said sophomore defender Briana Chopin who due to an injury was on the sideline. “We analyze and observe and come back more focused and aware.”

Coach Adolfo Perez stated he was proud of the team even though it was hard for Pierce to play their
normal style of place due to the Pirate’s physicality.

The Brahmas will travel to Mt. Sac on Friday, Sept. 12 with kick-off scheduled at 4 p.m.
