Academic senate announces student emails

Citations for those who smoke, one year delay for construction projects and a new Student Information Services (SIS) for students were some of the topics discussed in the Academic Senate Tuesday.

The SIS, announced by Wendy Bass, will be available Jan. 17 of 2012.  Also announced was the fact that all enrolled students will be given a .edu e-mail address by the new system.

“Students will benefit when going to museums, and when they buy [computer] software, is a lot cheaper,” said Bass.

Sunday Salter reported that Pierce is ranked number four in the state in transferring students to the University of Southern California USC and number one in transferring students to California State University Northridge.  Last year 1,260 student transferred to USC from Pierce thereby increasing the transfer rate from 31 percent to 35 percent.
