Twenty-two $5,000 scholarships will be awarded today to students who tweet about the First Amendment.
The “Free to Tweet” scholarship, funded by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, is being offered to journalism students between the ages of 14 and 22.
In order to participate, students are to tweet or blog about why they support the First Amendment. All tweets are to be accompanied by the hashtag #FreeToTweet .
A panel will review all the tweets sent out by the end of the day.
The scholarship is being awarded in honor of the 22oth anniversary of the ratification of the Bill of Rights.
There will be one scholarship awarded for every decade that the Bill of Rights was ratified.
Participants may enter multiple times, as long as each tweet is different.
