Former Pierce College men’s basketball player and leading scorer Terrell Funches will be moving up to the next level after signing his letter of intent to play with Texas A&M International University.
Funches played a key role during the Brahmas 2013 Western State Conference championship season by coming off the bench and providing an offensive presence that allowed the Brahmas to be successful. He followed that up in his sophomore season by averaging 20.9 points PPG and shooting 51.4 percent from the field.
For the Dustdevils who play in the NCAA Division II level they’ll be adding another consistent scorer to a strong roster that finished the season having won the Heartland Conference Championship in 2014.
Funches’ game is relied heavily on being 15-20 feet away from the basket where he is often more inclined at creating a mid range jumpshot instead of just settling for a three-pointer. The aspect of his game that he will need to improve on the most is his on-ball defense. His defense was exposed during the 2014 season and the Brahmas failed to make the playoffs.
Funches prior to coming to Pierce College played his high school basketball at Chatsworth high school and played in the East vs West Battle of the Valley All-Star game in 2012.
