Men’s volleyball needs four sets to come out on top against rival Moorpark Raiders.
After defeating Moorpark on the road earlier this season (3-2) Pierce wins at home on April, 8 25-23, 25-14 and 25-19. Only losing their third set 25-21.
With the win on Friday, the Brahmas’ record now improves to 5-13.
Each team had a different rotation of servers per game. The Brahmas Raymond Barsemian, Joe Arechiga, Kevin Trejo and Cris Pessin served the majority of the match.
The Raiders Peter Johnson, Ryan Butterworth, Andrew Hansen and Chris Salas served a large amount of the balls during the match.
Both teams handed each other points with wide swings and long serves out of bounds.
The Brahmas are not going to be in the playoffs this season, however, a win over Pierce’s rival gets players and coaches excited.
“It’s always nice to hold down the 818. We lose players to Moorpark but we showed them we’re good even though that happens,” said Pierce coach Lance Walker.
“Even though we are out of the playoffs it’s always a good win,” Arechiga said. “We are cross town rivals with Moorpark, so playing against them is different. We are happy for the win.”
Moorpark was down 0-2 at the start of the third game and Pierce fans were excited as the game match began.
Myers, had a big kill in the third set to give Moorpark momentum to eventually win their lone set.
Pierce Outside/Middle Blocker Jadrien Louden-Wiser said the match should have been won during the third game but they let too much happen that benefitted Moorpark.
“I think we did alright. We took our foot off the gas in the third game,” Louden-Wiser said. “We should have beat them in that game but it was a good team win in the fourth.”
The next match for the Brahmas is against winless LA Trade Tech on April, 13 at 6 p.m.
