Men’s volleyball spikes the Beavers

The Brahma men’s volleyball defeated the LA Trade Tech Beavers in their final home game of the season during sophomore night.

Pierce scored the first point in set one, but it didn’t take long for Trade Tech to get on the board. With both teams constantly going back and forth, Pierce took an 8-7 and held them for a few points after that.

The Brahmas called for a timeout while leading the set 19-14.

Shortly after, middle blocker Manny Sanchez scored the game-winning point for set one.

“Manny being Manny,” Pierce College volleyball announcer Mike Soto said into the microphone.

During set one, middle blocker Joe Arechiga was removed from the game and began icing his arm and wearing a knee brace.

“Coach wanted to save us for Santa Barbara on Friday and then he wanted to let everyone play today against Trade Tech because it’s our sophomore night,” Arechiga said.

In set two, Pierce struck first again, in the beginning of the set, the momentum for Trade Tech quickly faded.

With a score of 12-8, the Brahmas held the Beavers to eight points, reaching a score of 20-8 before Trade Tech scored again.

Pierce eventually won the second set after a long serve by Trade Tech. The end score was 25-11.

In the third and final set, the Brahmas scored four points before allowing the Beavers to score one.

With little scoring coming from the Beavers, the Brahmas managed to score five points in a row, twice.

With little fight left in them, the Beavers later scored three points in a row changing the score to 23-13.

Pierce won set three after a Trade Tech player failed to get the ball over the net. The end score was 25-15.

“The commitment level could be up, but today’s game I would say our passing definitely could improve. If we could’ve gotten that pass up during those jump balls, we wouldn’t be down by sixteen,” Trade Tech player Paul Myles said.

Although the third set proved the Brahmas victorious, halfway through the set, referees warned the boys about their chair alignment.

“They were taking the chairs out of line for the bench and by the rules, protocol, the chairs are supposed to be lined up, stay there. Don’t mess with them. They could’ve carded them if they wanted to,” Soto said.

The final game of the season will be on the road against Santa Barbara. The Brahmas currently own a 6-13 record.
