Clubs and committees all over campus are gearing up to show the student body of Los Angeles Pierce College what they’ve got.
Club Rush is going to be held on campus along the mall, Wednesday Sept. 14 and Thursday Sept. 14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This event is a chance for all the students to see the vast amount of clubs that Pierce College has to offer, brought to you by the Associated Student Organization (ASO).
“It’s a great way for students wanting to transfer to show universities not only are they a good student, but an active student that is involved with extracurricular activities, that’s what sets you apart from those with just a good grade,” ASO club council president Kosar Afsari said.
Each club will have a canopy booth where they will be showcasing what their club has to offer to students who join, as well as, what their club is about and how to get involved.
“I’m excited, because I’m not sure of all the clubs that are on campus and it would be cool to find one that fits me,” American Sign Language undergrad Joanna Flores said.
Snacks and refreshments along with games and activities will be at the booths to help entice students to check out the clubs.
“It’s a good way for the clubs to get engaged with the student body, it makes the campus more alive and it makes the experience of community college more enjoyable,” ASO president Efren Lopez said. “You spend a lot of time on campus and people want to see it alive and active and that is what we are trying to do here at ASO.”
Lopez and Afsari explained how club involvement is a great opportunity for the international students. Club involvement will allow them to feel more at home, making them more familiar with the student body.
Afsari recalls how when she first came to Pierce College as an international student she didn’t feel very involved.
If students have any further questions about club rush or ASO they can always visit the ASO center located on the 1st floor of the Library and Learning Crossroads Building. They are open Monday through Thursday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Don’t miss out on this opportunity to do something big on campus this fall semester here at Los Angeles Pierce College.
