Patrick Ramirez plays his guitar on the mall.
“I was really poor growing up. I asked my dad if he could buy me a guitar when I was 7. He said, ‘No, what are you talking about? We don’t have enough money to eat, why am I going to buy you an instrument?’ When I was 15, I had a little bit of money and I bought myself a harmonica. When I was 17, I stole a guitar. It was a Mexican acoustic guitar. It had four strings; I didn’t know what I was doing, but that was the first guitar I had.”
