Alexis Montevirgen was named the Pierce College President on May 13.
The Board of Trustees are expected to consider and approve the appointment at their next meeting on June 5, according to Los Angeles Community College District Director of Communications William Boyer.
LACCD Chancellor Francisco Rodriguez commented on the hiring in a news release.
“We are delighted that Dr. Montevirgen has agreed to join our District as Pierce’s next President. His credentials and experience are in strong alignment with our mission to serve all who seek a two-year college education, professional certificate or successful transfer to a four-year university,” Rodriguez said.
Montevirgen is expected to start on Monday, July 1. He will replace Larry Buckley, who is acting as Interim President.
Rodriguez thanked Buckley in an email addressed to the Pierce community.
“Let me also take a moment to especially and personally thank and recognize Dr. Larry Buckley for his outstanding and principled leadership throughout the last academic year at Pierce. He navigated Pierce through its transition in leadership this past year with grace, a deep sense of care and professionalism,” Rodriguez said.
Currently, Montevirgen acts as Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management at Indiana University, Northwest, and he has been there since 2014.
