After winning two games in a row, the soccer team lost against the College of the Canyons’ Cougars on Tuesday, Sept. 24.
COC scored two goals in the first-half, followed by its third goal in the last minutes of the game to win 3-0. Lesly Cabrera, Araceli Castaneda and Alexandra Prezioso all scored for the Cougars.
The Brahmas had multiple chances in the first half, but were not able to score.
Head Coach Adolfo Perez said the goal difference shouldn’t have been by three.
“You know, I really believe all the goals were stoppable,” Perez said. “That’s not the big version of Canyons. And yet they beat us through nothing.”
There were instances where a goal was close for the Brahmas. They were either blocked by the opponent’s goalie or kicked over.
Despite the weather conditions, Cougars’ Head Coach Justin Lundin is satisfied with the game’s results.
“Adolfo always puts together teams that are going to compete,” Lundin said. “So, you always know you’re going to be in for a tough game when you come here. The heat, I think, played in a little bit of impact for both teams.”
Goalkeeper Joanna Cerda said she was disappointed with the result.
“I think we gave up a lot of opportunities,” Cerda said. “We could have done so much better. Even if it was hot, it was just an excuse at this point. We just sort of keep hustling and take practice into consideration.”
Perez continues to believe in the Brahmas and has high hopes for them.
“We’ve been working, we just have to keep digging,” Perez said. “We’ve got to keep digging, gotta get better. All we can do is just practice how to get better. “
The Brahmas will be back in action Friday on the road against the Clovis College Crush at 4 p.m.
