Academic Senate discusses campus events

As the semester comes to an end, the Associated Student Organization has come up with ways to help students prepare for the end of the semester.

At the Academic Senate meeting Monday, ASO Vice President Jasmine Minchez talked about upcoming activities.

“We have had a lot of events over the past two weeks thanks to our ASO President Gayane Zazyan. Last week we held a cocoa and coloring event, and I think it was the busiest I’ve ever seen students inside the Multicultural Center,” Minchez said. “We will be having our ASO De-stress event on Thursday inside the Multicultural Center as well.”

Guided Pathways Coordinator Judy Lam also presented a report on behalf of Guided pathways later in the meeting, primarily covering the many events taking place this week.

“The Philosopher’s Cabaret is happening Thursday, Dec. 7, at 3:30 p.m. Also, on Wednesday, Dec. 6, in Building 600, we will be having a combined event,” Lam said. “It is going to be the Social Behavioral Sciences Research Showcase starting at 9:30 a.m. and also, we will be having our Gratitude Day. There will be food, drinks and it will be for people who want to hang out.”

Pierce College Transfer Center Director Sunday Salter said that it is a good time to be a transfer student.

“Almost all of the UC and CSU schools have extended their deadlines. In total, seven out of the nine UC’s have extended their deadlines to Jan. 15,” Salter said. “For our current students who are working hard it will be easier for them to get admitted into schools.”

This is the last Academic Senate meeting of the semester.
