Softball season concludes for 2024

The 2024 season for the Pierce College softball team came to an end after the Brahmas played their final game against Oxnard City College on Tuesday, April 23, ending their season with an overall score of 2-12.

While many players will be returning next year, this season the Brahmas said their goodbyes to two sophomore players, Kaylie Zenan (#35) and Mary Rios (#6).

Zenan reflected on the season and how she believes her team gave it their all.

“All of our energy was high throughout the games,” Zenan said. “Everyone put their whole heart out onto that field, everyone was cheering, it was just great.”

During this season, the Brahmas beat Ventura College 28-22—claiming their first win of the conference—as well as beating Santa Monica City College 13-2.

Brahmas starting pitcher, Kristjana Lewis (#23), was named the All-WSC Second Team, while Melissa Zaragoza and Kaylie Zenan were named as honorable mentions.

Lewis found herself reflecting on her team’s overall performance and how well they played as a unit out on the field.

“Everybody communicated, worked as a team, cheered, that’s everything we could ask for in the game of softball,” Lewis said.

While the softball team took a few losses, Head Coach Marschall is proud of his team and how much they have progressed on and off the field.

“That’s really the best [they’ve done], lots of great growth and improvement,” Marschall said. “Tremendous heart [on the field], the results don’t always show but there’s a lot of things they’ve done well. It’s all great building blocks, they’re a strong team.”

Alexis Menchaca (#8) knows that this is only the beginning for the team and sees a bright future ahead for the softball team at Pierce. From many memorable plays to her finding ways to ease the nerves when stepping out on the field, Menchaca said she finds a way to keep the energy up.

“I feel really great. I don’t even think about it,” Menchaca said. “I just put my glove out there and catch the ball and do my thing. It’s a great confidence booster, whenever I’m nervous and I get that first out it calms me down and gets my energy up too. I think this was like the best we have ever played as a team, and we are still figuring out our chemistry. I thought this was the best we ever played honestly, and we still have a lot to show.”
