Sophomore midfielder Daisy Alvarenga capitalized on a defensive error in the second half to score the third and final goal in Pierce College’s win at LA Valley College on Tuesday.
During the first half of the match the Brahmas played an imprecise game and committed several turnovers.
Despite those problems, freshman forward Edith Dominguez managed to score the first goal of the match followed by midfielder Sophie Forrester who scored the second right before halftime.
“It was a frustrating [first] half because the team was not playing in their usual style,” said Brahmas’ soccer head coach Adolfo Perez.
Pierce came out more focused in the second half limiting their turnovers and applying a lot of pressure on a Monarchs’ team that couldn’t go past midfield for some period of time.
The third and final goal for Pierce was scored by midfielder Daisy Alvarenga taking advantage of a Valley defensive error towards the end of the game.
“We played hard, we tried to win all the balls before them,” said Alvarenga. “Even though we were tired, we out hustled them.”
The pressure made them commit errors and the Brahmas’ third goal was an example of it, according to head coach Perez.
“We have to go in harder,” said injured defender Briana Chopin from the bench.
The Pierce College women’s soccer team will visit Glendale College on Friday, Sept.30 at 4 p.m.
