The three-day Club Rush concludes tomorrow in the Mall area with a dessert contest, and the presence of both a henna and an airbrush tattoo artist.
According to Associated Students Organization (ASO) Vice President Febe Ruiz, the tattoo artists will be offering their services from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the dessert contest will be occurring at noon.
“I’m not sure about how the judging for the dessert contest will be happening,” Ruiz said. “But I do know that Talia Elma, the Club Council president, will be one of the judges.”
Club Rush is an ASO-sponsored event that aims to inform students of the school’s student-run groups. In an effort to recruit new members, clubs set up booths and let students know of their organizations’ platform and future events.
According to Ruiz, this semester’s Club Rush is expected to have one of the biggest turnouts because of the number of clubs that have only recently been formed.
“This is actually our club’s first time to participate in Club Rush,” said 22-year-old Geology Club President Stella Massachi. “We’re having fun.”
Relay for Life, which will be held April 9 on Pierce College’s campus, is at the top of many clubs’ list of events for this semester.
The Latin American Culture and Literature club, Philosophy club, Black Student Union (BSU), Alpha Gamma Sigma (AGS) Honor Society, and Sampuso all plan on participating in the annual marathon.
“Right now, we’re trying to get other clubs to join our team,” said 19-year-old AGS President Nancy Miret.
Sampuso, Pierce College’s Filipino-American club, plans on going beyond the club with some of the events they have planned for the semester. One of these is Filipino Cultural Night, which will be held in the Madrid Theatre on May 12.
“We get together with other Filipino-American clubs in the area, and showcase our culture through a number of traditional dances,” said 23-year-old club president Anthony Cruz.
Science major Maiko Sakura, 25, encourages students to check out the clubs at school.
“Clubs are really fun way to get to know people and make new friends,” she said.
