The Pierce College football team broke even this season with a final record of five wins and five losses. Although their record may initially seem to indicate a season that could best be described as decent, going 5-5 in the 2007 season marked a drastic improvement from the team’s previous performances.

Shaping clay, shaping minds
From eccentric art pieces to traditional chili bowls, the “Clayful Abandon” art exhibit will be at the Pierce College Art Gallery from Nov. 27 to Dec. 20, officially closing the gallery’s year. With several art pieces featured from last spring’s exhibit in Davis, Calif.
Chancellor visits, speaks on district issues
Improvements for Los Angeles Community College campuses, workforce development and enrollment management were the main topics of discussion as Mark Drummond, Los Angeles Community College District chancellor, spoke in the Campus Center on Nov. 27. Speaking on what needs to be done, the chancellor stated, “We’re dealing with students who, in our district, we know that 60 percent of our students are below the federal poverty level.
Converting manure into energy
In a recent environmental project, Pierce College students took the bull by the, uh, tail and used animal waste (manure) bound with green waste (grass clippings) to produce a useful solid product that yields certain environmental benefits. The Pierce College Manure Team is a scientific team made up of eight current and former Pierce students working under the guidance of Professor Craig Meyer.
Cranky customers, cool it
The holidays are coming up once again. That means sales, shopping and most of all cranky customers. For those who work in the customer service field, whether food or retail, you know exactly what I am referring to. For some odd reason, customers tend to be crankier, rather than nicer, during this time of year.
Big bucks for buildings
Pierce College is upping its investment into construction of the Childhood Development Center, as well as the renovation of various athletics facilities and the addition of 17 temporary classrooms to the Village. The money for the increase was saved from government bonds for previous projects and the interest earned off of that extra money.
Whose fault is it?
The citizens of the San Fernando Valley were rudely awakened at 4:31 a.m. on the historical day of Jan. 17, 1994. The loud rumbling that broke the predawn silence lasted more than 30 seconds, with a magnitude measuring 6.7 on the Richter scale.
