Goodman Wins Professor Of The Year Award
This past April the faculty at Pierce College had their annual nominations for this year’s Professor of the Year award, one of those nominated was Professor Isidore “Izzy” Goodman. Towards week of April, it was announced that he was the winner of this pretigious award.
A Passion for swimming
A ‘Swim to Support Pierce Pool’ fundraiser Oct. 21, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. will be hosted by the Friends of Pierce Pool at the college pool. The funds will specifically be used for the maintenance of the pool, which according to Friends of Pierce Pool’s mission statement is a valuable asset to the college and surrounding community.
Professors bring new life to graduation
“Congratulations to the Class of 2007!” With those words, hundreds of family members and friends rose to their feet at the Pierce College graduation. Although a seemingly typical commencement, a new and refreshing change was evident this year: an abundance of teachers.
When press rights are challenged
The Pierce College Roundup investigates various subjects and situations and occasionally runs into people ignorant of press rights. This ignorance, professed or not, shouldn’t be used in an effort to conceal or protect special interests. Recently, there were two incidents that challenged our freedom of the press.

As editor of The Roundup, it is my duty and obligation to inform, as well as protect the rights of, our readers and staff. It is to these duties that I put all of my energy, heart and soul; and this quality newspaper is the product of that.
Boosting business and bulging bellies
After decades of wavering certainty with regard to the Cafeteria’s future, supervisor Linda Brown found the worries of last semester humorous. “It’s nothing new; they’ve been hanging this over our heads for twenty years,” she explained with a chuckle. In May, Pierce College President Robert Garber predicted the Cafeteria’s demise, calling it “a remnant of the past.
New Geology Professor “Fired Up” About Teaching At Pierce
When the geology department recently welcomed John Zayac, its newest full-time faculty member, it also welcomed the first professor in nearly 15 years to be dedicated exclusively to its department. Although the geology department has a long history, it has lacked a full-time professor to coordinate any further development of the program, something Zayac intends on doing next semester.
