Dear Editor: As a mature and avid participant in Pierce College’s terrific ENCORE programs, I’ve witnessed firsthand, on many occasions, the sloppy habits of some ill-mannered students. They discard their used bathroom paper towels in the sinks, on the floor, and even on the sidewalk outside the bathroom, when trash cans are readily available.
What happened to Tila Tequila’s first soul mate from season one of “A Shot at Love With Tila Tequila?” What about “Rock of Love?” And “I Love New York?” The sick portrayal of romance idolized by hundreds of thousands of teenagers is a twisted reflection of America’s values.

Speculation in the world of psychology suggests the law banning the use of hand-held cell phones while driving, which goes into effect July 1, may do more harm than good. The issue of “cognitive capture,” or the idea that conversations on cell phones are the cause of accidents and not the actual holding of them, was reported on by the Los Angeles Times March 25.
A new walkway beginning from the Metro Orange Line station on Winnetka Avenue and Victory Boulevard and continuing onto the Pierce College campus will be constructed by the fall of 2009. The path will be sited between the soccer field and the Village, extending as far as the Sheriff’s Office, according to Tom Rosdahl, instructor of automotive service technology.
Wireless Internet access is in the works for the Pierce College campus, but according to Information Technology Manager Mark Henderson, “we haven’t fleshed out all the particulars yet.” The gray-area details include the cost of the project and the funding source, the timeframe in which it will be completed and the areas where Wi-Fi will be installed on campus.
