But before Oct. 14, college students and lawmakers around the state want him to sign one more piece of paper, one last time, putting some legal restraints on the practices of college textbook pricing.
California’s Work Opportunities and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs) and Greater Avenues for Independence (GAIN) are programs available at Pierce to assist students in receiving funds for child care, books and supplies, uniforms and tools, work-study opportunities and employment information.

Students quench their thirst By: Ben Rizzo On a hot sunny day in the Pierce College campus mall, a glass-enclosed vending machine stands as a tribute to everlasting thirst. “Enjoy a refreshing drink,” the machine beckons as its robotic arm readies for motion across the stacks of neatly assorted liquids.

While it is probably the politicians who should be learning from Kanye West and 50 Cent on how to devise a good publicity stunt, the two hip-hop heavyweights borrowed heavily from the political campaigning tactics as their recent “sales war” has provided the public with nothing but empty promises and false hope.

The price of tuition, plus the general cost of living, creates a very expensive equation for the average Pierce College student. Add that to the new editions of books that raise the prices for the addition of one sentence that a publisher deemed vital to the understanding of a whole textbook.

1300 foster children are expected to gather at Pierce College on Sunday, Oct. 14 to participate in Day of the Child. Day of the Child is an event sponsored by Children Uniting Nations to raise awareness of homeless and foster children in the L.A. County area.
