I am a dirty filthy smoker.† † I smoke a pack a day and by all indications from those that I come into contact with, I am going to soon be infected with terrible diseases and probably die early.† † As if that weren’t punishment enough for my choice, now, because of my habit, I am potentially a criminal in my own town.
Designated smoking areas are located all throughout campus, but there are students who choose to smoke everywhere. They are found lighting up near classrooms, outside bathrooms and even in the S. Taper Botanical Garden on benches. This needs to change.

At the weekly Associated Students Organization meeting on May 9, several important items were voted on and approved. A $500 scholarship for international students was passed to help ease the fee increase that will occur this summer. The fee increase will only affect the international and non-residents students.
Increasing gas prices shouldn’t make me seek another part- time job. In the past year, costs have increased immensely. This affects not only college students, but the general population. Just one week ago, a 7-cent increment for every gallon of regular, unleaded and diesel fuel was implemented at various gas stations.

Tuition for non-resident and international students will increase $5 per unit this summer, according to Marco J. De La Garza, dean of student services at Pierce College. Out of 17,178 students at Pierce, 381 are classified as non-residents and 231 as international.
