Pushed a little too far

Pierce College swimmer Christina Courtney, 20, suffered an injury in her right shoulder during the swim event at the State Championships at Saddleback College. Courtney qualified to swim for the State Championships, but she had not completed two events and came back home early, according to head coach Fred Shaw.

Get out your caps, gowns

The 60th annual Pierce College graduation will take place June 4 at 6 p.m., at Swisher Park, across from the cafeteria. Graduates are scheduled to arrive by 5:15 p.m. in order to register and receive instructions. Thirteen-hundred students submitted a petition for graduation, but only 500 are expected to attend the ceremony.

Several awards were given at the sports banquet Monday in the faculty lounge, including the title of tennis MVP to Kostya Omelyanchuk. Other awards presented were “most improved” to Enrique Lewin for tennis and “the coaches award” to Antonio Cortez in tennis.
