Tennis team improves despite losses
Only Kostya Omelyinchuk, a Pierce College freshman tennis player, matched a tie in his second set against Ventura College’s Hassan Abbas; but after losing the third set, Pierce ended up losing all matches, six singles and three doubles in the first home game on March 4.
Tennis match lost to Ventura College, 9-0
The March 4 tennnis match against Ventura College ended in a loss for Pierce College, with Ventura musterign a final score of 9-0. Is the goal to simply win at any cost?
Recall the age-old adage: Nice guys finish last. While true to a point, recent history would indicate that this saying is no longer quite accurate. Nowadays, your run-of-the-mill average Joe finds his or herself trailing the ever- increasing line of ruthless competitors.
Baseball 3-5 in standings at week’s end:
The Brahmas battled the Renegades of Bakersfield College Thursday, with the game ending 9-6 in favor of the Renegades. Pierce College is now 3-4 across their last seven games, which date back to Feb. 21. “We left it all on the field today and unfortunately we didn’t play well enough to win,” said Joe Arnold, head coach of the Brahmas.
ASO candidates announced
The spring elections for positions in the Associated Students Organization have been scheduled for April 14 and 15, with a debate forum scheduled for April 8. The official list of candidates was released early last week. There are four candidates for the position of president: Skyler Grant, Sallay Manah, Christian Marfil and Adam Wade.
Giving Pierce a fresh face
When the Los Angeles Community College District did not get enough money for construction under Proposition A in 2001, they sought out for more. The district went out to the voters with Proposition AA in 2003 and received another $980 million for the bond construction program.
A hero in the kitchen
The smoke is rising and something starts to sizzle. Smells of garlic and spices swarm through the air as the new Country Cafe chef Jose Cruz whips up fresh made-to-order food. During a time of uncertainty concerning the cafeteria’s future, Cruz has come to rescue Pierce College with freshly prepared foods and innovative ideas for food service.
All cell phones off please
A fail. A zero. Suspension. Possible expulsion. An Academic Dishonesty Report on file. These are the possible disciplinary actions for cheating. The decision to cheat or not to cheat remains fully in the student’s own hands. The consequences can be severe and may end up costing a lot in the long run.
Making English class sexy
“Make it sexy!” As one can tell, this isn’t the average English class. It is exactly this eccentricity and energy that sets Professor David Gonzalez apart from other professors of English. “Personally, I’m whacky,” said Gonzalez, who has been teaching at Pierce College for six years.
