The touch of victors

Defensive tackle Franky Anaya’s block leads to a game winning 24-yard field goal as the Pierce College Brahmas defeated the Antelope Valley College Marauders 44-41 yesterday night in Woodland Hills.

Forcing several punts in the second half, it was Pierce’s last punt that proved to be the most important.

As the ball was snapped, Anaya ran through two defenders to get to the punter. Putting his hand up to block the kick, his last second effort was an excellent representation of the total Brahma football team.

Getting dominated in the first half, Pierce couldn’t find a way to stop the Marauder offense.

However, it turned out Pierce hasn’t run out of their nine lives as the last few plays make up for the lack of scoring and discipline displayed  earlier in the game.

Even though Anaya’s effort saved the game for the Brahmas, it was the wide receiver plays that kept them in the game.

Shedding off the Marauder defenders as if they were in little boys, wide receivers Coleman Edmond, Damon Julian, Ty Harris and Nate Ingram constantly came up big throughout the game.

Nothing short of amazing, Ingram’s one-handed grab around three defenders in the back of the end zone seemed to be the momentum changer for the Brahma offense.

With the win Saturday night, Pierce now controls their own destiny in becoming conference champions.
