The Associated Students Organization has tentatively scheduled a second meeting on Friday at 1 p.m. in the ASO Conference Room to discuss the outcome of the recent vice presidential election controversy.
According to reports and complaints filed by ASO members, vice presidential candidate Lauren Aardema violated election guidelines as set by the ASO election by laws.
Saenz hosted a student court Tuesday to decide on a proper course of action that lead to Aardema’s disqualification from the election.
Justices were given options to formulate their own penalty, disqualify Aardema, hold a second election or ignore the infraction.
Aardema appealed for a second meeting in response to the decision.
According to Saenz, the decision will again be made by a court of ASO justices.
However, he explained that a second hearing did not need to take place.
“The court doesn’t even have to hear the appeal,” Saenz said. “It’s totally up to them.”
On the justification of a second meeting, Saenz said “I don’t think there was [any]. I guess both parties want to speak for themselves.”
“It’s supposed to only go to one meeting according to ASO by laws,” he added.
Witnesses will be allowed to attend the meeting to speak on behalf of their candidates.
The student court will have the final say in how many witnesses may speak.
If the original decision for Aardema’s disqualification is upheld, Axelrod will be declared ASO vice president.
