The Leadership club which hosted its induction ceremony on Saturday June 11 will be hosting their orientation early next semester.
The leadership club strives to educate students in how to handle themselves in the real world as well as to provide them with a safe and supportive environment to make it through college.
Once the criteria for acceptance is met, inductees are accepted for life. This provides members with countless contacts and opportunities.
In order to be accepted a student must attend an orientation hosted once per semester, attend a leadership training course, attend three speaker events and develop a successful networking team.
To qualify to be a member you must be invited by a current club member or have a high G.P.A. Students must pay a one time fee of $75.
“The Society gives students opportunities on scholarships as well as help them in all aspects of life not just school,” said Robert Dinkel, a 33-year-old computer science major and club publicity chair.
The induction ceremony was hosted in the Great Hall at 10 a.m. Saturday June 11 and 57 new members were added to the club.
Professor of political science and service learning director Jim Dawson spoke at the event.
The club has been influential in many charity events on campus in the last semester including a 24-hour participation in the Relay For Life event. This was the highest participation of any club on campus.
“Leadership is one of the most important things in life,” said Faith Singer a 45-year-old psychology major and club president. “I want to teach others how to become leaders.”
The club helps students with a job board unique to club members, helps in putting together a resume, discounts, letters of recommendation, and access to scholarships and grants unavailable to non members, according to Singer.
“The club is a place for like minded individuals to get together and focus on similar goals,” said Patricia Lyon a 23-year-old undecided major and club vice president. “It’s a lifetime of benefits.”
The club will be hosting their orientation in the fall semester but they have not yet set an official date. Students interested should check out the club on their website www.pireceleadership.com.
