The men’s volleyball team at Pierce College lost their starting setter and now they are working hard to step up their game. Sia Irilian, 17, who had been playing volleyball for nine years and was the starting setter for the Brahmas, quit after their March 12 game against Moorpark College.

Alex “Ace” Scott has been studying and practicing parkour – a style of urban obstacle coursing – for a little more than four years.
A vivid take on a classic play
Making its theatrical debut at Pierce College, Arthur Miller’s “All My Sons” shined on stage with brilliant dialogue, incredible acting and impressive stage design. The story focuses on Joe Keller (played by Bill Ruehl), a 61-year-old man who ships airplane parts to airplane construction sites or repair shops.

Stop the uninformed rebellions
Last night I was watching CSPAN (yes, insert nerd alert here) and I was absolutely appalled to find that the stalwart of boring political coverage (think British parliamentary live coverage) had been overtaken by YouTube. I’m a big proponent of the populist political coverage that CNN, most visibly, and other network and cable shows have been pushing during this election season.
A plan to aid in student success
To work 20 hours a week, carry 12 units and be a single parent of a 4-year-old child is enough to keep anyone busy. This is how Melissa Alvarado, 26, lives on a day-to-day basis. Alvarado, a possible business or accounting major, is an active mother whose days never seem to end.
Seat filled in LACCD board
Winnetka resident Miguel Santiago, 35, was sworn in as the newest member of the Los Angeles Community College District board of trustees on April 9. Chosen by the board members from a group of 27 applicants to fill the position left by Warren Furutani, who was elected in February to the California State Assembly, Santiago says he hopes to “live up to the board’s trust and confidence.

April 1 – 11:09 a.m. Suspect entered the Bookstore, took a book and hid it. About 20 minutes later, suspect return and stole the book from the store. 2 p.m. An LCD projector was reported to be taken from Room #8111. April 3 – 11:21 a.m. Two students fought in the Bookstore and one was arrested.
Construction expected to wrap in mid-2010
As jackhammers pounded and bulldozers groaned behind him, Pierce College President Robert Garber announced that the Los Angeles Community College District board of trustees is considering a third bond measure to provide additional funding for construction on the district’s nine campuses during a news conference on April 2.
