The Pierce football team has been the butt of many a joke in semesters past, that’s no secret. Well, the times they are a-changing. Helping to usher in these changes is their new receiver, Ramon Perry. This is Perry’s first semester at Pierce, but he’s definitely nothing new to football, having played for upwards of five years.
A sense of elation permeated the air Monday at a team barbecue in the Field House at Shepard Stadium that had everything to do with the football team’s 17-8 upset victory over the Renegades at Bakersfield Saturday. “It’s a major win for the program,” said head coach Dave Banuelos.

A combination of solid defense, steady hitting and a great pitching performance earned the Brahmas the top spot as Western State Conference South baseball champions Thursday at Pierce College. Tall right-hander Dan Berlind threw a complete game, striking out 12 and issuing no walks to lead the Brahmas to a 12-3 victory over College of the Canyons.

The first female president at Pierce, Marie Young Martin, died in West Hills of natural causes Oct. 3. She was 96. Martin led Pierce from 1966 to 1970, through times of war, civil unrest and dissent, through bra burnings and the breakthrough of human rights.
