BRIEF: State college chancellor leaving position

California Community Colleges Chancellor Eloy Ortiz Oakley will be stepping down from his position on August 1 to become President of the College Futures Foundation.

In a press release, Oakley said it was an honor for him to be chancellor.

“Serving as chancellor of the community college system that gave me the opportunity to succeed in higher education has been the most rewarding experience of my life,” Oakley said. “I am so proud of what the Chancellor’s Office team has accomplished and of the amazing students that we serve. I am forever grateful to Gov. Newsom, former Gov. Jerry Brown, and the members of the Board of Governors for the opportunity and the privilege to serve the California community colleges and the great State of California.”

Donna Lucas, Chair of the Colleges Future Foundation Board, made the announcement  to those involved in the organization. 

Board of Governors President Pamela Haynes said in the release, that the board will meet in July to appoint an interim chancellor and will engage in a search to name a permanent replacement.

Oakley will be taking over for current President and CEO Monica Lozano.
