Two opposites face off in forum debate
What started as a calm and informative night ended in a heated discussion with a pending debate at the Proposition and Candidate forum Thursday in the Pierce College Campus Center. The event was sponsored by the Women’s Organization Coalition collaboration with Pierce.
Football takes another beating
It was a clear cool evening Saturday at Shepard Stadium, but apparently a hot and hazy one on the field for the Brahmas, facing the College of the Canyon’s Cougars with a 53-17 loss. Unfortunately, a key mistake in the game was the Brahmas defense, ranked 13 in rushing defense in the Western State Conference, which allowed Canyon’s Cougars offensive team, ranked number two in the WSC, earn the win.
100 games ‘n’ counting for Brahmas’ soccer
The Pierce College women’s soccer team has won more than 100 games in just under six seasons, a feat for any team, and one that should be recognized by a school not always known for its athletic domination. The women’s soccer program started in 2001 and now has recorded its 103 victory in its first 135 games.
Persian festival fetes culture
Music, dancing and food were just some of the things that many people enjoyed at the Persian cultural Mehregan 2006 festival in Pierce College’s Swisher Park Sunday. “This is a day everyone can see each other and smile,” said festival organizer Roberto Soofiani, 55.
Classrooms refurbished
During the winter session at Pierce College, when the majority of students are away on break, most classrooms are dark and silent. But this winter, 30 classrooms in the English, science and math buildings will be filled with the sound of drills and the smell of paint as contractors perform the first interior face-lift in more than 40 years.

Weather station back in business
The storm raging around the Pierce College Weather Station for two weeks has finally passed. The weather station was unable to provide forecasts after a firewall intended to keep hackers off the school’s network unintentionally also blocked weather updates.
ASO student court will be back in session
Starting this semester, the Associated Students Organization (ASO) will be re-establishing its judicial branch, the student court. The student court has not been in session for more than 4 years. “The court would be there to decide how to moderate student issues and grievances,” said ASO president Abraham White.
Gov. signs bill, equalizes funding students
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed a new law Oct. 4 that will give more funding to community colleges and replace Proposition 13 which was passed in 1978. The measure says that community colleges receive their funding from the state, not local districts as before.
